Kate Garraway and kids enjoy a trip to Cornwall while Derek stays home

The TV presenter took to Instagram on Sunday to share a short video of her extended family playing football during the well-earned break, and revealed they had reunited after 18 months apart.

Kate explained that her children had enjoyed the half-term getaway, while Derek’s parents looked after him at home. 

Alongside the video, Kate wrote: ‘#paradise Thanks to the wonderful mum dad & sisters draper for coming down to be with Derek (with nurses too of course) so I could take my mum dad , Darcey & Billy to Cornwall.

After previously revealing a car belonging to Derek had been stolen from outside their home in 2020, she also thanked motor manufacturers Peugeot for lending them a vehicle for the trip.

She wrote: ‘And thanks so so much to @peugeotuk for lending us a car to get us there!

His symptoms were so severe he had to be placed in an induced coma for months, and finally returned home in April after spending a year in hospital, but still has a long way to go in his recovery.

Last month, Kate gave an update on her husband Derek’s health, saying he ‘can’t really move’ and still has minimal communication. 

Appearing on the BBC‘s The Andrew Marr Show, the presenter said her husband is still ‘devastated’ by the virus, after having been previously warned he still has avengers xxx: a porn parody long way to go in his recovery.

She said: ‘He came home on April the 7th so we’re a few weeks into it now.

How is he? Look, he’s devastated by Covid. 

‘He can’t really move, his communication is very minimal. There are moments where there’s up, you feel you know he’s in there. He has a lot of memory.
